A student photographed one atom | Miracle of technology

A student at Oxford University, David Nadlinger, took a photograph “One atom in an ion trap”. In the picture, one can really see the atom with the naked eye.

A small white dot can be seen between the two electrodes – this is the strontium atom, which is held by the electric field. In order for the atom to be seen, a blue-violet laser is aimed at it.

It should be noted that in the picture it is not the atom light itself. Nevertheless, David won in the competition of scientific photographs, which was organized by the British Council of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
